Medical Equipment Testing & Calibration
Our medical testing programs can be divided into four facets:
-
As specified in the standard AS/NZS 3551; all appliances used for patient treatment, diagnosis and monitoring are required to be tested by a qualified person at least every 12 months. This involves a certified technician to carry out a visual inspection and electrical measurements of insulation resistance, earthing integrity and leakage currents. Once a pass is confirmed a printed label will be attached to the appliance; which will include our details, the test date and the date the next test is due, and all tests and results will then be recorded in our system.
-
When an appliance fails, our technicians are trained and qualified to repair the fault on the spot and retest to ensure a pass result. In the event that our technician is unable to carry out the repairs, we have the local knowledge and contacts to be able to offer the best, cost effective and trusted options for vendors in your area.
-
This is a check to see that a medical device is operating correctly and within expected parameters. Many medical devices; such as an electrocardiograph, are required to be verified as part of their mandatory tests. In addition to these there are also various non-powered devices that require a routine test for verification; these include, tympanic thermometers, sphygmomanometers and scales.
-
Medical procedures involving medical electrical appliances are recommended to be performed in a body-protected area. This means the power supply must be protected by a medical safety switch or RCD. Under the standard requirements; AS/NZS 3003, these must also be tested and certified annually.
In addition to our medical testing we are still providing standard electrical compliance testing under AS/NZS 3760. This means you can have all electrical and medical appliances tested, tagged and verified through the same trusted company. We are also happy to work with you to synchronise all your appliance testing so we will only need to be on the premises once a year.
Legislation and Standards
The Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010 make healthcare practice owners/managers responsible for a safe environment for staff, patients, whanau, and visitors. Routine testing and calibration of electrical equipment are essential to ensure safety and avoid penalties.
Volt Test & Tag helps you maintain compliance and readiness for accreditation audits. Familiarity with these three standards is crucial.
